Bonus post today….. 😉
There’s a note from Diane Marchese, who works with Buildings and Grounds, that says:
On Thursday, May 20, from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 7:00 a.m. there will be a planned power outage on campus to perform maintenance on the electrical system. The west side of the D section of the building will be without power for this hour.
Okay, this needs a translation.
On Thursday morning, the Computer Center (D200) will be without power for up to an hour. The UPS systems in the room will carry the servers for, oh, about 15 minutes and then shut the servers down gracefully.
That means that all electronic systems, including but not limited to Banner, WWW web site, general internet access on the wired and wireless networks, Genesis, Blackboard, Library and Exchange email may be down during that time.
In fact, we’re going to take Banner down before 6 am to make sure it goes down gracefully. So when the power comes back up, that means it will be 15-30 minutes before all services are back online. Be patient if you’re one of the early birds who get here early.
Not a major crisis since exams are over on Wednesday and grades aren’t due until Friday. It’s only a crisis to those that left work to the very last minute. Umm… or if the work takes more than an hour and extends into the work day. We won’t know until we get there.
On the other hand, it may be done in 15 minutes and no one will notice.
Outlook.com email for students will not be affected by this. \o/
