Student Development Series, Week of October 18

This coming week there are four different Student Development Series workshops being offered to students (see below for more details).  You need to SIGN UP in the Student Activities Office for any of the workshops you plan to attend!

Students will receive credit toward the Student Development Series just by attending.  These are also credit options for those enrolled in the Leadership Certificate program!

Student Development Series Workshop
(Wellness module)
Credit Scores
Tuesday, October 19th
12:30-2:00pm
S104

Lauren Paisley – Instructor of Business

Everyone knows the “FreeCreditReport.com” song but do you know your credit score and what it means?  This workshop will help you locate your credit score for free, help explain what the number means, and how to keep the number where you want it (and how to help a bad score turn good)!

Student Development Series Workshop
(LIFE module)
Introduction to Exercising
Thursday, October 21st
12:30-2:00pm
S103

Eric Sandler – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Want to start working out? Not sure where to start?  This workshop is designed to answer basic questions about exercise and fitness, and provide students the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment in the fitness center.  The first part of the workshop (12:30-1:00) will focus on exercise concepts related to cardiovascular training, muscle development, and weight loss.  The second part (1:00-2:00) will be conducted in the fitness center and include introductions to the cardiovascular equipment, circuit training stations, stability balls, and medicine balls.  The certified personal training team at GCC will be on hand to walk you through the introductions and answer your questions.

Student Development Series Workshop
(Cross Cultural module)
Languages Around the World
Thursday, October 21st
5:00pm
S103

Amy Cleveland – International Student Advisor

Join us to learn a few basic sayings in other languages!  “Hi, My name is…”, “What is your name?”, “How are you?”, etc.  Another way to participate is by volunteering to teach these key phrases in other languages!

Student Development Series Workshop
(Cross Cultural module)
My Music
Friday, October 22nd
7:00pm
Village Hall

College Village RAs

Bring music from your home country or just your favorite music!  Let’s talk about the differences and similarities of music!  Then listen to music, chat and enjoy some light snacks!

  1. I came up with the idea behind “Language Around the World” and “My Music”. I thought those workshops would be ways for Genesee students to really endorse culture and find some common ground while still learning new things. 🙂 I hope they go well!
